Water Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis) is one of the most popular and versatile stem plants in the freshwater aquarium hobby, native to the Indian subcontinent and beloved for its deeply lobed, lace-like leaves that create a lush, feathery backdrop in any planted tank. One of the fastest-growing aquarium plants available, it is a powerhouse nutrient absorber that actively outcompetes algae — making it as practical as it is beautiful. Its leaves vary dramatically in shape depending on light intensity, becoming more finely divided and intricate under brighter conditions, rewarding attentive aquarists with an ever-changing, dynamic display.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Grows extremely rapidly and benefits from frequent trimming. Leaves floating on the surface will readily produce new plantlets.
