Sulfurhead Peacock Cichlid

The Sulfurhead Peacock Cichlid (Aulonocara maylandi) is a rare and distinctive Lake Malawi peacock cichlid, instantly recognisable by its striking yellow-sulphur patch on the head and nape contrasting against a blue-grey body. One of the more unusual and collectible peacock species, it is a prized addition to any serious African cichlid display tank.

• Tank Size: Minimum 200L; larger tanks recommended for multiple males
• Water Parameters: pH 7.8–8.5 | Temp 24–28°C | Hard, alkaline water essential — replicates Lake Malawi conditions
• Diet: Omnivorous — quality cichlid pellets, frozen foods such as brine shrimp and krill; avoid high-protein mammal-based foods
• Temperament: Semi-aggressive; best kept with other Malawi peacocks and haplochromines of similar size; avoid mbuna
• Tank Setup: Sandy substrate with open swimming space and rock formations for territory and shelter
