Spotted Kuhli Loach (Pangio Shelfordi) 4cm

The Spotted Kuhli Loach (Pangio shelfordi) is a charming and lesser-known cousin of the common Kuhli Loach, distinguished by its pale cream to pinkish body adorned with irregular dark brown spots and blotches rather than the typical banded pattern. Native to the slow-moving, leaf-littered streams of Borneo, this peaceful and secretive loach is a delightful addition to planted aquariums and biotope setups. Like all Kuhli-type loaches, they are most active at dusk and dawn, weaving through substrate and plant roots with their characteristic eel-like grace.

Care Guide

• Tank Size: Minimum 60L; best kept in groups of 5 or more — social and more confident in groups; lone individuals tend to hide constantly
• Water Parameters: pH 5.5–7.0 | Temp 24–28°C | Soft, slightly acidic water preferred; excellent water quality essential
• Diet: Omnivorous bottom feeder — quality sinking micro pellets and wafers; supplement with frozen or live bloodworm, daphnia, and tubifex; will scavenge uneaten food from the substrate
• Temperament: Peaceful; ideal community fish — safe with small tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and shrimp
• Tank Setup: Soft, fine substrate (sand preferred); planted aquarium with leaf litter, driftwood, and plenty of hiding spots such as caves and dense plant cover; a tight-fitting lid is essential as they are escape artists
