Pogostemon erectus is a striking and elegant stem plant native to India, instantly recognisable by its dense whorls of fine, needle-like, bright green leaves that radiate symmetrically around each stem node, creating a soft, almost pine-tree-like silhouette in the aquarium. When planted in groups, it forms a breathtaking forest of vivid green columns that add incredible depth and texture to the background of any planted aquascape. Under good light and CO2, it grows with impressive vigour and maintains its tight, compact whorled structure — one of the most architecturally beautiful stem plants in the hobby.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Plant in groups for maximum visual impact. Regular trimming encourages dense, bushy growth.
