Mono Sebae 4cm

The Mono Sebae (Monodactylus sebae) is a striking and unusual brackish-to-marine fish from the coastal rivers, estuaries, and mangroves of West Africa. Displaying a tall, laterally compressed silver body with bold black vertical bars and yellow-tipped fins, the Mono Sebae is a fast-moving, schooling species with a commanding presence in larger aquariums. While juveniles can tolerate freshwater conditions, they require increasingly saline water as they mature — making them best suited to experienced fishkeepers with brackish or marine setups.

Important Note: These fish are currently kept in a 10% salt mix (approx. specific gravity 1.002–1.005). Long-term, Mono Sebae are best kept in brackish to full marine conditions. Please ensure your aquarium is appropriately set up before purchasing.

Care Guide

• Tank Size: Minimum 300L; active, fast-swimming schooling fish — keep in groups of 4+ in a spacious aquarium
• Water Parameters: pH 7.5–8.5 | Temp 24–28°C | Juveniles tolerate low-end brackish (SG 1.002–1.005); adults require SG 1.010–1.025 (full marine)
• Diet: Omnivorous — accepts quality marine flake, pellets, and frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood; also grazes on algae and plant matter
• Temperament: Generally peaceful with similarly sized fish; may nip fins of slow or long-finned tankmates — avoid housing with delicate species
• Tank Setup: Large, open swimming space with robust décor; live rock or mangrove roots ideal; strong filtration essential
• Skill Level: Intermediate–Advanced
