Ludwigia repens is one of the most popular and widely grown red stem plants in the freshwater aquarium hobby, native to North America and prized for its attractive oval leaves that display a classic contrast of olive-green on top and rich red-pink on the undersides. Fast-growing, adaptable, and forgiving, it is an excellent entry point into red stem plants for beginners while remaining a reliable staple for experienced aquarists. Its vigorous growth makes it a highly effective nutrient absorber, and under high light the red tones deepen dramatically, creating a warm, glowing backdrop in any planted tank.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Grows readily and benefits from regular trimming to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth.
