Ludwigia palustris is a classic and widely loved stem plant naturalised across much of the world, native to North America and prized in the aquarium hobby for its attractive oval leaves that display a beautiful contrast of bright green on top and vivid red-pink on the undersides. Fast-growing and undemanding, it is one of the most reliable and rewarding stem plants for aquarists of all experience levels, adding a graceful column of colour to the mid to background of any planted tank. Its vigorous growth also makes it an excellent nutrient absorber, helping to keep algae in check.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Grows readily and benefits from regular trimming to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth.
