The Galaxy Wood Catfish (Tatia galaxias) is a rare and captivating driftwood catfish from the Orinoco and Amazon river basins of South America. Displaying a striking dark brown to black body covered in a constellation of small white to cream spots — reminiscent of a galaxy — this nocturnal species is a true collector's fish that is seldom seen in the Australian hobby. Peaceful and undemanding, the Galaxy Wood Catfish spends its days tucked away in driftwood crevices and caves, emerging at night to forage. Its unique patterning and secretive nature make it a fascinating and rewarding species for the dedicated aquarist.
