The Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius) is one of the most popular and beloved small aquarium fish, prized for its stunning colouration and peaceful temperament. Males display a vivid pattern of alternating diagonal stripes in fiery red-orange and cool iridescent blue, with shimmering scales that catch the light beautifully. Despite their striking appearance, Dwarf Gouramis are gentle, undemanding fish that thrive in planted community aquariums and make an excellent centrepiece species for smaller tanks.

Care Guide

• Tank Size: Minimum 60L; best kept as a single male or one male with females to avoid aggression between males
• Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5 | Temp 24–28°C | Prefers soft to moderately hard, slightly acidic to neutral water
• Diet: Omnivorous — quality micro pellets or flake food; supplement with frozen or live daphnia, brine shrimp, and blanched vegetables
• Temperament: Peaceful; may be shy — avoid housing with boisterous or fin-nipping species; males can be territorial with each other
• Tank Setup: Heavily planted aquarium with floating plants and gentle filtration; low flow preferred; hiding spots help reduce stress
