Dwarf Chain Loach 2.5cm

The Dwarf Chain Loach (Ambastaia sidthimunki), also known as the Sid Loach, is one of the most charming and sought-after small loach species in the freshwater hobby. Displaying a striking pattern of dark brown chain-like markings over a cream-gold body, these active and social fish are endlessly entertaining to watch as they dart, tumble, and play together in groups. Unlike many loaches, their compact size makes them perfectly suited to smaller planted aquariums. They are also commonly used in shrimp tanks as a natural snail control solution, keeping pest snail populations in check without harming adult shrimp.

• Tank Size: Minimum 80L; best kept in groups of 6 or more — social fish that become stressed and reclusive when kept alone or in small numbers
• Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5 | Temp 24–28°C | Soft to moderately hard water preferred
• Diet: Omnivorous — quality sinking pellets and wafers; supplement with frozen or live bloodworm, daphnia, and brine shrimp; will also consume small snails
• Temperament: Peaceful; excellent community fish — active and playful, best kept with similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates
• Tank Setup: Planted aquarium with smooth substrate, hiding spots such as caves and driftwood, and open swimming areas; a tight-fitting lid is essential as loaches are known jumpers
