The Similis Corydoras (Corydoras similis), also known as the Smudge Spot Cory, is an attractive and relatively uncommon species from the Rio Madeira basin in Brazil. Displaying a silver-grey body with a distinctive dark smudge or spot at the base of the tail and subtle spotting along the flanks, it closely resembles Corydoras sterbai in body shape but with its own unique markings. Active, peaceful, and social, the Similis Cory is a rewarding addition to planted community aquariums for hobbyists looking for something a little different from the more common Corydoras species.
