Congo Tetra

The Congo Tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus) is a stunning and large-bodied tetra native to the Congo River Basin in Central Africa. Males are particularly spectacular, displaying iridescent scales that shimmer in shades of gold, blue, and violet, with flowing, elongated fins that develop beautifully with age. A peaceful schooling fish that adds a dramatic, jewel-like quality to any community aquarium.

• Tank Size: Minimum 120L; larger tanks allow for better schooling behaviour
• Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5 | Temp 23–27°C | Soft to moderately hard water preferred
• Diet: Omnivorous — quality flake and micro pellet foods; supplement with frozen or live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworm
• Temperament: Peaceful; excellent community fish — best kept in groups of 6 or more; males display more vivid colouration in larger schools
• Tank Setup: Planted aquarium with open swimming space; subdued lighting enhances iridescent colouration; dark substrate recommended
