Foxtail, also known as Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum), is one of the most widely recognised and versatile aquatic plants in the hobby, beloved for its dense, feathery whorls of bright green, needle-like leaves that create a lush, flowing backdrop in any aquarium. A true survivor, it thrives in an enormous range of water conditions and requires no substrate — it can be left floating or loosely anchored, making it ideal for fry tanks, community aquariums, and low-tech setups alike. Its rapid growth also makes it a powerhouse for absorbing excess nutrients and keeping algae in check.
Propagation: Simply break or cut stems into sections of 10–15cm and allow to float or replant. New growth will emerge from each node readily.
