The Betta Simorum (Betta simorum) is a large and impressive wild Betta from the blackwater peat swamps and slow-moving rivers of Sumatra and the Riau Archipelago, Indonesia. A paternal mouthbrooder, it displays a striking combination of dark olive-brown body colouration with vivid iridescent blue-green scaling on the fins and flanks — a bold and handsome fish that commands attention in a species aquarium. One of the larger wild Betta species, it is best appreciated by experienced keepers who can provide the specialised conditions it requires.
