Betta hendra is a rare and captivating wild betta species from the peat swamps of Borneo. Known for its striking iridescent blue-green scales and vivid red fin markings, this small species is a prized find for wild betta enthusiasts. Their natural habitat makes them well-suited to blackwater and low-pH setups.

Care Guide

• Tank Size: Minimum 30L; provide dense planting and hiding spots for the female
• Water Parameters: pH 4.0–6.5 | Temp 24–28°C | Soft, acidic blackwater conditions preferred
• Diet: Carnivorous — feed small live or frozen foods such as daphnia, micro worms, and bloodworms
• Temperament: Males aggressive toward other males; pairs can coexist with adequate space and cover
• Tank Setup: Blackwater setup with leaf litter, driftwood, and dense planting; low flow; requires access to surface air
• Skill Level: Advanced
• Max Size: 3–4cm

Compatibility Note

These fish can be aggressive, and even compatible pairs may not get along permanently. Please have a Plan B ready, such as a separate, appropriately sized tank, in case they need to be separated.
