The Betta Antuta (Betta antuta) is a large and spectacular wild Betta from the blackwater peat swamps of Borneo, Malaysia. One of the most impressive members of the unimaculata complex, it is a paternal mouthbrooder that can reach a substantial size, displaying a rich brown-olive body with vivid iridescent blue-green scaling and bold fin colouration. A commanding presence in any species aquarium, Betta antuta is a prized species for the serious wild Betta collector.
Care Guide
- Tank Size: Minimum 120L per pair; species-only setup essential given their size and territorial nature
- Water Parameters: pH 4.5–6.5 | Temp 24–28°C | Soft, acidic blackwater; Indian almond leaves and peat filtration recommended
- Diet: Carnivorous — live or frozen earthworms, bloodworm, and large invertebrates; readily accepts quality cichlid or carnivore pellets
- Temperament: Males highly territorial; must be kept as a single pair with ample space and visual breaks
- Tank Setup: Heavily planted with large driftwood, leaf litter, and caves; dim lighting; robust plants that can withstand a large, active fish
- Skill Level: Advanced
- Max Size: 12cm

Nicholas I really like the size and quality of these fish. Closest Australia will get to snakeheads. Love the colour and behaviour of this fish.
