The Betta Albimarginata (Betta albimarginata), known as the White-Seam Fighter, is a small and exquisitely beautiful wild Betta from the shallow, slow-moving forest streams of Borneo — particularly the Malinau and Sebuku river systems of Kalimantan, Indonesia. A paternal mouthbrooder, it is named for the distinctive white margins on its fins, which contrast beautifully against its rich red-brown body and iridescent blue-green scaling. One of the more manageable wild Betta species in terms of size, it is a wonderful choice for the intermediate to advanced keeper looking to explore the world of wild Bettas.
Care Guide
- Tank Size: Minimum 40L per male; can be kept in a harem setup (one male, multiple females) in a larger tank
- Water Parameters: pH 4.5–6.5 | Temp 22–26°C | Soft, acidic water; Indian almond leaves beneficial; prefers cooler temperatures
- Diet: Carnivorous — live or frozen bloodworm, daphnia, and baby brine shrimp; can be trained to accept quality micro pellets
- Temperament: Males territorial with other males; females generally tolerant; harem setups work well with sufficient space
- Tank Setup: Heavily planted with leaf litter, fine-leaved plants, and dim lighting; low flow; replicates their shallow forest stream habitat
