Limnophila aromatica is a beautifully aromatic stem plant native to the rice paddies and waterways of Southeast Asia, instantly recognisable by its whorls of narrow, lance-shaped leaves that shift from vivid green to rich purple-red on the undersides under high light. Crush a stem and you'll be greeted by a distinctive herbal fragrance — a reminder of its use in Southeast Asian cuisine. In the aquarium, it creates a lush, colourful column of growth in the background, with its two-toned foliage adding depth and warmth to any planted scape.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Grows at a moderate pace and benefits from regular trimming to maintain shape and encourage branching.
