Anubias Afzelli 'Old Type' (Anubias afzelii) is the original, unselected form of this tall, elegant West African species, prized by collectors for its long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves and authentic, unimproved character. On a medium piece of Malaysian driftwood, it creates a striking vertical accent that adds height and drama to mid-sized aquariums, paludariums, or as a bold midground-to-background feature in larger tanks. Malaysian driftwood releases gentle tannins that naturally soften the water, creating ideal conditions for this statuesque species to thrive.
Propagation: Divide the rhizome with a clean, sharp blade ensuring each section has at least 3–4 healthy leaves. Reattach to hardscape using aquarium-safe super glue or fishing line. Never bury the rhizome in substrate as it will rot.
