Alternanthera rosaefolia is a classic and beloved red stem plant native to South America, prized for its striking lance-shaped leaves in warm shades of rose-pink, magenta, and deep red that bring a vivid splash of warm colour to the midground and background of any planted aquascape. One of the more accessible red plants in the hobby, it responds beautifully to good light and consistent fertilisation, rewarding aquarists with rich, saturated colouration that contrasts magnificently against green carpets and mosses. A timeless choice for adding warmth and depth to any planted tank.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Grows at a moderate pace; trim regularly to encourage bushy, dense growth.
