Alternanthera reineckii 'Red' is one of the most iconic and widely loved red stem plants in the freshwater aquarium hobby, native to South America and prized for its striking lance-shaped leaves in vivid shades of red, magenta, and deep crimson that bring a bold, warm splash of colour to any planted aquascape. Its rich colouration intensifies beautifully under high light and with consistent iron-rich fertilisation, creating a dramatic contrast against green carpets, mosses, and lighter-coloured plants. A classic choice for aquascapers of all levels looking to add depth, warmth, and visual impact to their scape.
Propagation: Take stem cuttings of 5–10cm, remove lower leaves, and replant into the substrate. Grows at a moderate pace; trim regularly to encourage bushy, dense growth.
