The Skunk Corydoras (Corydoras arcuatus) is a sleek and elegant Corydoras species from the upper Amazon basin in Brazil and Peru, distinguished by a bold, arching black stripe that runs from the snout, over the eye, and along the back to the base of the tail — resembling a skunk's stripe and giving this species its common name. Against a pale silver-white body, this striking marking makes the Skunk Cory one of the more visually distinctive Corydoras in the hobby. Peaceful, active, and social, it is an excellent addition to planted community aquariums.

Care Guide

  • Tank Size: Minimum 80L; best kept in groups of 6 or more — social fish that are most active and confident in larger groups
  • Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.2 | Temp 22–26°C | Soft, slightly acidic water preferred; good water quality essential
  • Diet: Omnivorous bottom feeder — quality sinking pellets and wafers; supplement with frozen or live bloodworm, daphnia, and brine shrimp
  • Temperament: Peaceful; ideal community fish — compatible with most small to medium non-aggressive species
  • Tank Setup: Soft, fine substrate (sand preferred to protect their sensitive barbels); planted aquarium with open foraging areas and hiding spots
