The Spotted Silver Dollar (Metynnis lippincottianus) is a striking and active schooling fish from the rivers of South America, closely related to the piranha but entirely herbivorous in nature. Its deep, laterally compressed silver body is adorned with small dark spots scattered across the flanks, giving it a distinctive and attractive appearance. At 4cm, these are young juveniles with plenty of growing to do — a rewarding species to raise on and watch develop into impressive, disc-shaped adults that school gracefully in large aquariums.
