Mystery snails (Pomacea bridgesii) are a sought-after species for aquarists due to their bright colors and quirky mysterious attitudes. Mystery snails are a hardy easy to keep, beginner aquatic snail which population is easy to keep under control.
They will lay eggs above the waterline which will hatch within 2-4 weeks depending on humidity and temperature, if you wish not to overpopulate the aquarium snail eggs can be very easily removed.
Mystery snails will naturally graze on aquarium glass, plants and surfaces looking for biofilm, algae and decomposing plant and animal matter. Mystery snails should be fed with algae wafers on a bi-weekly basis minimum, an additional calcium supplement is recommended to encourage strong shell growth and repair .
If your intentions are to breed a group of 8+ is ideal, leaving the water level a 5cm clearance for the snails to lay eggs. It is best to keep a lid on the tank at all times to ensure stable temperature and humidity levels which are optimum conditions for a successful hatch rate.
Mystery snails are a tropical aquatic snail which for growth rate is best suited in tanks set to 24-27°C, although in mine and customers years of success they can be suitable for colder setups ideally 20°C minimum.
Avoid mixing snail eating fish such as loaches, and larger African cichlids. Most customers report success housing mystery snails with bettas although this will depend on the bettas behaviour.
All snails will be packed in moist paper towel during transit, they can survive a very long time out of water given they have access to moist conditions.
Unfortunately we cannot post mystery snails to NT due to them not being a native species. Please also note we cannot post livestock or plants to WA or TAS due to complete quarantine restrictions .
